Where To Stay In Washington

I’m planning a trip to Washington DC and I’m looking for some advice on where to stay. I’m looking for a place that is centrally located, has good public transportation, and is within my budget. I’d like to stay somewhere that is safe and comfortable, and that has a lot of amenities. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
