What To Wear To The Ballet In Nyc

I’m going to the ballet in NYC and I’m wondering what I should wear. I’m not sure what the dress code is for the event and I don’t want to be under or over dressed. I’m looking for something that is formal but still comfortable. I’m thinking a nice dress or skirt and blouse with heels would be a good option. I’m also considering wearing a suit or dress pants and a blouse with dress shoes. I’m not sure if a tie is necessary or if a dress coat is needed. Any advice on what I should wear would be greatly appreciated.
