What To Wear Hiking In 40 Degree Weather

I’m planning on going hiking in a few days and the weather is going to be around 40 degrees. I’m wondering what I should wear to stay warm and comfortable. I’m thinking of wearing a few layers, such as a base layer, a mid-layer, and an outer layer. For my base layer, I’m thinking of wearing a lightweight thermal shirt and pants. For my mid-layer, I’m thinking of wearing a fleece jacket and pants. For my outer layer, I’m thinking of wearing a waterproof jacket and pants. I’m also thinking of wearing a hat, gloves, and a scarf to keep my head, hands, and neck warm. I’m wondering if this is the best way to dress for the weather or if there are any other pieces of clothing I should consider. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
