Often What One Expects To See Influences What Is Perceived In The Surrounding Environment.

I’m trying to understand how what one expects to see influences what is perceived in the surrounding environment. I’m aware that expectations can shape our perception, but I’m not sure how this works in the context of the environment. For example, if I expect to see a certain type of animal in a certain area, will I be more likely to spot it than if I didn’t expect to see it? Or is there something else at play? I’m hoping to get some insight into this phenomenon so that I can better understand how it works.
