How To Travel To Machu Picchu From Us

I am looking for advice on how to travel from the USA to Machu Picchu. I understand that the most common way to get there is to fly into Lima, Peru, and then take a bus to Cusco. From Cusco, I can take a train to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. I am wondering if there are other ways to get there, such as taking a boat or a car. I am also interested in learning about any other tips or tricks that can make the journey smoother. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions that anyone has to offer.
