How To Travel On A Plane With A Gun

I’m planning a trip and I want to know how to travel on a plane with a gun. I’m a responsible gun owner and I’m aware of the regulations and laws that come with traveling with a firearm. I understand that I need to check the gun with the airline and declare it when I check in. I’m also aware that the gun needs to be unloaded and the ammunition must be stored in a separate, locked container. I’m wondering if there are any other precautions I should take before I travel with my gun? Are there any other rules or regulations I should be aware of? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
