How Does Mail Travel From State To State

I’m curious to know how mail travels from state to state. I understand that the US Postal Service is responsible for delivering mail, but I’m not sure how it gets from one state to another. Does the mail stay within the same state, or is it transported to other states? Is there any special process involved in getting mail to its destination? I’m hoping to get some answers so I can understand the process better.
