What Does Ready To Wear Mean In Fashion

I’m a fashion enthusiast, and I’m trying to understand what “ready to wear” means in the fashion industry. I’m aware that it’s a term used to describe clothing that is made in standard sizes and can be bought directly off the rack, but I’m not sure what this means in terms of the quality of the clothing. Does it mean that the clothing is of a lower quality than custom-made clothing? Is it more affordable? I’m hoping to get some insight from others in the fashion industry so that I can better understand what “ready to wear” means.
